Located in the north-central part of the state of Arizona and a city and seat of Coconino County, Flagstaff lies in the San Francisco Peaks which are immediately north of the city, and wherein it was encircled by the Coconino National Forest. The arrival of the Atlantic and Pacific Railroad in 1882 assured the area’s economic growth. The city is timber-based however, the economic activities that prevailed were in the tourism industry. With the Scientific developments and its proximity to Glen Canyon Dam augmented the city’s asset. The nearby Arizona Snowbowl, ski winter resort. Meteor Crater, Painted Desert, Sunset Crater Volcano, and other tourist attractions that are nearby contributed greatly to the city’s income.
