Azusa is located in California and a city in San Gabriel Valley that sits on the foothills of San Gabriel Mountains in Los Angeles County. The name of the town was derived from the Tongva place called Asukagna, and the area has been a part of its people since at least 55 BC. The area where the present-day Azusa stands were settled by the Mexicans in 1841 from a land grant of the Alta California governor. With the cession of California from the United States that followed during the Mexican-American War and the Treaty of Guadalupe that the land grants that were granted will be honored.
