Located in the state of California in Los Angeles County, Burbank is majorly situated in San Fernando Valley, which was historically part of the Rancho San Rafael and La Providencia, which was initially formed through the land grants that were made by the Spanish government. The city's name was from a Los Angeles dentist who established a sheep ranch in 1867 and sold a right-of-way to Southern Pacific Railway, then enabled the railroad to reach the area. Truck manufacturing and motion-picture was once the dominant activity of the city's economy but has then experienced rapid growth in the 1940s. Walt Disney, Warner Brothers, and NBC maintain a television station and movie studios in Burbank up to the present.
