Campbell is located in the state of California and a city in Santa Clara County and also forms part of Silicon Valley, which is situated in the San Francisco Bay Area. The city was home to the sprawling open-air retail complex, Pruneyard Shopping Center, which was involved in a United States landmark case that established the right to free speech in the state of California. At present, the shopping center is the home to the offices of the Federal Bureau of Investigation to South Bay. The area was inhabited by the Ohlone, who are members of the Native American of the Northern California coast. before the settlers arrived. A portion of Campbell at present is part of the Alta California Rancho Rinconada de Los Gatos land grant, wherein the northern extension of the grant was along the present-day Rincon Avenue.
