Davis is located in the central part of the state of California and a city in Yolo County. It sits along the western part of Sacramento along Sacramento River valley. It was founded in 1868 and was named Davisville after an owner of a stock owner in the area, Jerome C. Davis. The name of the city was made shorter to Davis by the post office in 1907 and became its official name in 1917. The area was initially developed as an agricultural community and has become a primary center for education and also has some light industry such as food processing and steel fabrication, and also has several prominent medical facilities that supplement the city's economy. The schools for veterinary medicine, law, engineering, medicine, biological science, and others were also established.
