Delano is situated in the state of California and a city in Kern County. The town was founded in 1869 as a railroad town, it was not because the railroad passed through the area but because the railroad that came from the south of San Francisco terminated at Delano. The name of the city was given by the Southern Pacific Railroad in honor of Columbus Delano when he was still the Secretary of the Interior for the United States. The town is the terminus of the railroad, it started with a boom, and it then became the headquarters for hundreds of the workforce who were building the railroad into the town and the same people who made the railroad into Bakersfield the following year.
