Located in the southeastern area of Los Angeles in the state of California, and is about 13 miles southeast from Los Angeles' downtown. Downey has been considered to be a part of the Gateway Cities. The city was once the domain of California cattle ranchers, and the city's rancho areas have been subdivided into farms. The region was then eventually developed to become an agricultural community. One of the main crops that were produced are various grains, mustard, and different fruits. When the railway link was completed, it was able to offer greater access for the city to market their produce and crops. And at the start of the 1920s, Downey's oil industry began to expand. Downey is the birthplace of the famous Apollo space program and is also the home of McDonald's oldest restaurant in the world, which is operational up to the present.
