El Centro is located in the southeastern part of the state of California and a city and seat of Imperial County. It is situated in the eastern part of San Diego and in the northern part of Mexicali, Mexico. The area is considered to be a desert community that sits at about 50 feet below sea level and is also considered to be one of the largest settlements that are situated below sea level in the whole United States. The area was originally laid out and was developed as a commercial and a center for transportation for the irrigated Imperial Valley. The city’s primary activity has centered primarily on agriculture along with some manufacturing. The geothermal energy resources of the city are based on local well-drilling that have been developed. It was considered as well as the Naval Air Facility-El Centro’s “winter home” of the Blue Angels.
