Hansord is located in the south-central part of the state of California and a city and seat of Kings County. The town is surrounded by cities that do not fall under or within the city limits; however, they use the same zip code, and it includes the communities of Grangeville, Hardwick, and Home Garden. The area where the present-day Hanford stands were inhabited for a thousand years by the Tachi Yokut Indians before the European-Americans arrived in the area. The tribes settled along the creeks, springs, and soughs that are situated along the seasonal and perennial drainages and along the flat ridges and terraces. The permanent settlements were then established along the streams that are considered to be a likely location for prehistoric cultures.
