Located in the southern part of the state of California and a city in Orange County, Newport Beach sits on the south of Long Beach along Newport Bay. The city was discovered by Samuel S. Dunnells who sailed into the bay to search for “new port” facilities, after which he developed the Newport Lansing and became a lumber terminal in 1873. The area developed around its limits of sports and commercial fishing, yachting, beach activities, among others. Newport Beach is considered to be a residential community for commuters to Long Beach and Los Angeles. The city is home to some tourist attractions such as the Newport Harbor Art Museum, and the Orange County Museum of Art.
