Novato is located in the western part of the state of California and a city in Marin County and sits on the northern part of San Francisco that lies in the Novato Creek that is in the San Pablo Bay on the east and the Point Reyes National Seashore on the west. The area where the present-day Novato was inhabited by the Miwok Indians and in 1839, the ownership of the site was granted to Fernando Feliz, and he established Rancho Novato that makes a part of the present-day Novato. The area also holds a significant portion of the history when Rancho del Indio was granted to Carmelo Ynitia who was the son of the last chief of the Miwok tribe, and wherein they established a large orchard that is said to be the largest in the whole world and exported the fruit crops
