Ontario is located in the southwestern part of San Bernardino County east of downtown Los Angeles and to the west, the downtown San Bernardino. The city serves as the government seat of the county. Ontario is home to the 15th liveliest cargo airport in the country, wherein numerous freight traffic goes through between the ports of Los Angeles, Long Beach, and the rest of the United States. During the early years of its founding, the city’s economy has been stirred by its reputation as a health resort that is starting to get popular within the region. However, farmers of citrus began to cultivate the city’s rocky soil wherein they planted orange and lemon groves. Vintners and olive growers were also able to see this opportunity. Today, the city’s economy shifted to fruit-processing and shipping and has remained to be a major regional distribution center.
