Palm Desert is located in the state of California and a city in Riverside County that is in the eastern part of Palm Springs and is in the northeastern part of San Diego. The area where the present-day Palm Desert was first known as the Old McDonald Ranch, however, it was then changed to Palm Village during the 1920s and during the same time when the date palms were also planted around the site. According to the local historians, it was said that the primary residents of the area during the pre-195o Palm Desert were the Cahuilla Indian farmers that are part of the now extinct San Cayetano tribes. However, there are a few members of the Montoya family of the Cahuilla/Spanish descent that were prominent leaders in civic life.
