Rancho Palos Verdes is located in the state of California and a city in Los Angeles County, where it sits atop the Palos Verdes Hills and the bluffs of the Palos Verdes Peninsula. The city is known for its expensive and luxurious homes in the suburbs of Los Angeles amidst the large tract of open spaces that offer and expansive views of the Pacific Ocean. The earliest inhabitants in the area were the Tongva and Gabrielino Indians who were noted to be already inhabiting the site even before the Age of Discovery. It was the Spanish explorer Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo that was credited to be the first European to navigate around the state of California and its coast in 1542, which includes his discovery of the Rancho Palos Verdes. The city’s most famous geographical features include the Palos Verdes Hills and Cliffs, and its grand vistas of the Pacific Ocean. The affluent suburb of Rancho Palos Verdes is located 30 miles south of west Los Angeles, but residents value its distance from the usual LA destinations and attractions. The city’s name literally translates to “Ranch of Green Sticks,” which refers to the that beautiful, green veranda-like hills that surround the city. Rancho Palos Verdes is considered one of the cleanest and safest cities in LA. Its local government ranks high in the state, with top rated fire departments, community amenities, parks, playgrounds, retail centers, malls, and restaurants. The big local activities are cycling, surfing, and swimming. While it takes quite a drive to reach L.A.’s popular tourist spots, most residents find no reason to leave the city. As such, the housing prices tend to be high since Rancho Palos Verdes is considered an excellent real estate investment.
