Rancho Santa Margarita is located in the state of California and a city in Orange County, and is considered to be Orange County's youngest cities and is a master-planned community. It is noteworthy that the city has the longest name among all the other cities in California as it has 20 characters long. Although the town is considered to be in San Diego County, the city's limits fall within the borders of Rancho Mission Viejo. One of the city's most important economic activities was from the aerospace industry, where the Hughes Aircraft Company's Microelectronic Systems Division was moved to Rancho Santa Margarita from Irvine. However, the plant closed down its facilities due to budget constraints in the aerospace industry in 1992.
