Rohnert Park is located in the state of California and a city in Sonoma County and is situated in the northern part of San Francisco. Rohnert Park is considered as an early planned city and is the sister city of Hashimoto, a city in Japan. It is also the home of Sonoma State University, which is a part of the California State University system. The area was originally inhabited and home of the Coast Miwok Native Americans. In 1844, the Mexican government granted the Rancho Cotate to Captain Juan Castaneda for his military service in the region and the nearby areas. At present, the grant encompassed the present-day cities of Penngrove, Cotati, and Rohnert Park. The town was named after the Rohnert family, and after which a large portion of the land was purchased by a businessman from Detroit, Michigan to minimize the flooding in the field using a crude drainage system. Today, it’s a popular living and recreation hub in central Sonoma County with a population of 40,971 spread across 15 residential neighborhoods, each of which has its own elementary school and park. Rohnert Park also features a dynamic arts community, an acclaimed state university, an eclectic mix of restaurants, and a gambling casino. Those spending a quick getaway in town can explore the Central Rohnert Park district, Annadel State Park, Armstrong Redwoods State Reserve, and the Sugarloaf Ridge State Park for outdoor adventures. Rohnert Park is also surrounded by the magnificent wineries of Napa Valley and Sonoma Valley, and it’s a short drive away from the food mecca of Santa Rosa and the nightlife of Petaluma. All of these make Rohnert Park a fantastic city to establish roots, work, and play.
