Located in the state of California and a city that is in North County region San Diego County, San Marcos is bordered by Escondido to the east, the Encinitas to the southwest, by Carlsbad to the west, and by Vista to the northwest. Lake San Marcos is a county island that is enclaved in the southwestern part of San Marcos. At the start of 1896, San Marcos was already a community that has its blacksmith, post office, railroad, and its stores. The first school in the area was established in Barham but eventually moved to San Marcos as it was fading due to its location from the railroad. The people of San Marcos that the same will not happen to their city by picking up their homes and moved closer to the railroad tracks for about a couple of miles away wherein the area is now known as Mission Road and Pico Avenue.
