Located in the state of California and a city in the San Francisco Bay Area in Alameda County. Union City is located south of Oakland, and southeast of San Francisco, and north by San Jose. The area was incorporated after combining the communities of Alvarado, New Haven, and Decoto. Union City along with the cities of Fremont and Newark make up the south area’s Tri-City. The first community of what Union City is at present was founded by John and William Horber who called the area as Union City after their owned Sacramento River Steamship, “The Union”. It merged with the nearby community of New Haven in 1854 to form the town of Alvarado on the western side.
