Yucaipa is located in the state of California and a city in the eastern part of San Bernardino County. Before the Spanish conqueror arrived in the United States and the arrival of the European settlers from Mexico, the present-day Yucaipa within the Yucaipa Valley was inhabited by the Serrano Indians for about 1,000 years. The nearby Rancheria is the Yucaipa Adobe is believed to be the oldest house within the San Bernardino County. The area was controlled by the San Gabriel Mission, and the Rancho suffered losses from the cattle and horses from the raids by the Native Americans that came through the Cajon Pass and Banning Pass coming from the desert. The Rancho was then purchased to Mormon settlers in 1851.
