Located in the state of Colorado and is the home rule municipality in the Adams and Weld counties and lies in the quadrant of the Denver-Aurora-Broomfield metropolitan area on the northeastern side. Thornton is on the north/northeast and is only about 10 miles from downtown Denver. The town has been cultivated and developed and has been consistently farmland until 1953, wherein it was laid out to become the first thoroughly planned community for Adams County. Thornton's location has become a primary source of providing an excellent environment for outdoor, recreation, and cultural enthusiasts, as it is most accessible to its 28 significant resorts area that is within the Rocky Mountains or the Rockies. The Rockies offer skiing, hiking, rafting, and camping, which also includes its breathtaking views and scenic wonders.
