Bridgeport is a historic seaport city that is bordered in the north by the towns of Trumbull, Fairfield, and Stratford to the west and the east, respectively. Bridgeport's early settlers farmed and fished, but soon took advantage of the city's location and then shifted from agricultural to a mercantile and manufacturing hub. The city has gradually adjusted to a service-based economy when the decline of the industrial sector at the start of the 20th century.
