Altamonte Springs is located in the state of Florida and is a suburban city of Seminole County. The city is situated in the northern part of the suburbs of the Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first recorded settlers to arrive in the area was Dr. Washington Kilmer from Cincinnati, who has a European background, in 1870. He then later named the site as Altamont, without the “e” from the modern-day spelling of the city, after the city in New York, Altamont where he lived nearby during his childhood. A business company that arrived in the city in 1882 gave the present-day name - Altamonte Springs. The company then developed the center community along Altamonte Avenue which is in between Maitland and Longwood Avenue. In 1920, the residents of Altamonte Springs came together to cast their votes on whether to incorporate the city or not. Altamonte Springs is considered one of the most competently-managed cities in Florida. This Orlando suburb is debt-free, with some of the lowest tax rates in the state. This rare combination has made it in-demand for business-minded residents who value technical innovation and entrepreneurship. Aside from being a mecca for commerce, Altamonte Springs is also haven for families and young adults. It offers a variety of housing options, from luxury subdivisions to town homes, rent-controlled apartments, and massive mansions at the wealthiest parts of the city. No matter where you live in Altamonte Springs, however, you’re always close to the action— the multi-generational strip malls of SR 436, beautiful parks and lakes at the Lake Lotus Nature Park, hidden dining discoveries, award-winning golf courses, the Cranes Roost Park, Lake Brantley Sports Complex, and a short drive away from Daytona Beach, I-Drive, and Orlando’s world-famous theme parks. Quaint yet extremely forward thinking, Altamonte Springs a true gem among Florida cities.
