Aventura is located in the state of Florida and is considered to be a planned city which is a suburb of northeastern Miami-Dade County. The name means “adventure’ in Spanish, after the developers of the original group of condominiums that were built in the area, and when Eddie Lewis and Don Soffer remarked “What an adventure this is going to be.” The area was initially referred to as Turnberry, it was only then referred to as Aventura when it began its development in the early part of the 1970s and eventually incorporated in 1995. The city is home to Turnberry Isle, a luxury resort, and also where the yacht Monkey Business docked when the Gary Hart/Donna Rice incident, wherein the incident contributed to Hart pulling out his 1998 bid for the presidency.
