Located in the west-central part of the state of Florida and a city in Pinellas County, Largo is situated nearby Clearwater Harbor and is just south of the city of Clearwater. When the first Spanish explorers visited the region, the site was already settled and was named after the nearby Lake Largo or for Largo, Scotland. A post office was then established in 1886 along with the arrival of Orange Belt Railroad. The town’s population grew and after 1960, it was then developed as a tourist and retirement center. The city is largely residential, and that tourism and services are the main activity of the economy. The high-technology industries and the shipping and processing of citrus fruits and seafood are also vital to the economy’s growth.
