Located in the southeastern part of the state of Florida and a city in Miami-Dade County, Miami is situated on a barrier island that is located between Biscayne Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. The area was originally settled by Twequesa and later on by the Seminole Indians. The area was originally a mangrove swamp where there were unsuccessful attempts to build coconut plantations but had better luck growing avocado groves instead. The pioneering development of the area as a real estate area brought about the building of a bridge across the bay. Miami Beach at present is considered to be a luxury resort and convention center that can be enjoyed by visitors and residents all year round because of its glorious weather.
