Located in the north-central part of the Miami-Dade County in the state of Florida and is in mid-way between Miami and Fort Lauderdale and can be easily accessed via the Palmetto Expressway in the Florida Turnpike. When the construction of the I-95 in the latter part of the 1960s, numerous middle-and upper-income African Americans and some West Indian American families started and settled from the neighborhoods of Miami neighborhoods like the Liberty City and to the present day Miami Gardens, formerly known and calledasCarol City, Norland, or Norwood, and became as a race-based covenants that eventually became outlawed by the Fair Housing Act. Since then, the majority of the lower-income African Americans moved and settled in Liberty City and in Little Hall neighborhoods, which surrounds Liberty Square and Edison Courts.
