Sarasota is located in the western-central part of the state of Florida and a city and seat of Sarasota County. It sits along the Sarasota Bay that is in the southern part of Tampa. The name of the town was spelled previously as Sara Zota, Sarazota, and Sarasote and appeared in the maps in the 1700s; however, the name of the place remains to be uncertain. Although there was one explanation where it was suggested that the name was derived from the Spanish term that means “a place of dancing.” The first settler of the area where the present-day Sarasota stood arrived in 1856 and started to plant orange trees. The Scottish came and settled in the area in 1884 and, after two years, built a golf course.
