Tamarac is located in the state of Florida and a city in Broward county. A young developer who came from the Midwest and named Ken Behring came to the area and bought the land so that he could create an active adult community and a two-bedroom maintenance-free home. He then called the site as Tamarac after the country club nearby in Oakland Park. Behring built, and Jesse Pilch then sold the city’s first developed eastern part of State Road 7, the Tamarac Lakes Section One and Section Two. Then the next neighborhoods that were established were built on the former orange grove that was called Tamarac Lakes North and The Boulevard. Tamarac’s early leaders were aiming to preserve Tamarac as a bedroom community, which then allowed Fort Lauderdale to annex the commercial pockets.
