West Palm Beach is located in the southeastern part of the state of Florida and is the seat of Palm Beach County, and West Palm Beach sits along the western Lake Worth, which is a lagoon that was separated from the Atlantic Ocean to the east. During the city's early founding years, it was developed to become a winter beach resort across the lagoon at Palm Beach. When the transportation facilities in the city improved in addition to the railroad that is already present, the West Palm Beach Canal going westward was created. West Palm Beach did not only become a tourist spot but as well became a commercial and financial hub of the region. The city has a huge number of retirees in its population. The city is home to several colleges, cultural institutions, and museums.
