Brookhaven is located in the state of Georgia and a city in the western part of DeKalb County and is in the northeastern suburb of Atlanta. The area where the present-day Brookhaven's settlement started when the European settler John Evins who then started as a plantation around 1810. In 1830, the area was purchased by Harris, and Solomon Goodwin, who came from South Carolina and moved to Georgia, became the owner of the area. The Goodwins then built a home and the family graveyard that was being preserved within the present-day city. Around the 1900s, the residents of Atlanta started to construct the summer cottages in the community, and the 150 acres part of the area was then purchased on the northern side of the Peachtree Road.
