Located in the state of Georgia and a city in the northern part of Fulton County. The city has a population of more than 94,000 making it the biggest city in the state of Georgia. Roswell is a suburb of Atlanta and has a very affluent historic district. Roswell used to be part of Cobb County when it was first inhabited and was the former seat of Marietta County which is only about a four-hour horseback ride going to the west. When the city was first submitted for incorporation as a city charter, the residents only desired a local government. At the start of the American Civil War, the cotton mills that were established all over the city employed more than 400 people, and the majority are women. As the mills increased in their production, the residents also did. At the end of the American Civil War, most of the men are paid to work as paid labor on plantations. When the southern part of the United States suffered an agricultural depression that was affected by the war and the labor changes.
