Hoffman Estates is located in the state of Illinois and a village located primarily in Cook County and a small section of its portion in Kane County. Hoffman Estates is a suburb of Chicago. The Northwest Tollway opened in 1958, and the village became more attractive to the commuters from Chicago. At the start of 1961, the first land north of the tollway was then annexed to the town of the Hoffman Estates. When the Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg was opened in 1972 in the eastern part of the city, the area became an important business center in the region, and any pursuit to rename the village to East Barrington was made but failed upon the votes made by the residents.
