Located in the northeastern part of the state of Illinois and a village in Cook and DuPage counties, Schaumburg is a part of the northwestern suburb of Chicago and of the Golden Corridor. It is situated approximately 28 miles northwest of the Chicago Loop and of the O’Hare National Airport. The city has one of Illinois’ two IKEA stores. It is also where Woodfield Mall is located, the largest mall in the whole United States, wherein at most times has over 300 stores. The city’s transition from a rural community to a suburban city started with Alfred Campanelli’s first large-scale suburban-style development that began in 1959.
