Located in the southern part of the state of Indiana, Bloomington is situated in the south-southwest of Indianapolis. The city sits in the middle of the Indiana limestone belt, wherein some extensive quarries and mills can be found nearby. Home to Indiana University, the institution became the city’s major employer and the element in the city’s growth and development. The city’s economy was diversified as various industries such as the production of elevators, refrigerators, medical and surgical equipment, and televisions. The Tibetan Cultural Center is located just southeast of the city was founded by the elder brother of the 14th Dalai Lama.
