Kenner is in the state of Louisiana and is considered to be the largest incorporated suburban city in Jefferson Parish and of New Orleans. The area where the present-day Kenner sits was initially inhabited by the Tchoupitoulas Indians when they reside along the banks of the Mississippi River and are known to be the first land within the New Orleans Metropolitan area where the early European settlers set their foot. Kenner was then founded in 1855 by Minor Kenner, wherein it consisted of three properties that were made into plantations that were later bought by the Kenner family. During that time, the present-day Airline Highway on the northern part was a swampland. The city's growth only started in the 1950s when the developers began to subdivide, drained, and filled the swampland in the northern part of the town.
