Gaithersburg is located in the state of Maryland and a city in Montgomery County, and sits on the northwestern part of Washington and is considered to be a significant part of the Washington-Arlington-Alexandria-DC-VA-MD-WV Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city is partitioned into east and west parts that are separated by Interstate 270. The original and older portion of the town is on the eastern section before its growth. The old buildings established in the city are still visible up to the present, including its central business district that is referred to as "Olde Towne." The western part of the town is where the wealthier neighborhoods were established with smart growth techniques and to embrace the New Urbanism. Consumers often come to this part of the city during Black Fridays and other holidays for shopping for deals and various colossal brand name stores.
