Dearborn Heights is located in the state of Michigan and a city in Wayne County and a part of the Detroit metropolitan area. The area was incorporated from the Dearborn Township's two discontinuous sections and a strip of land that connects to the village of Inkster. In 1960, a petition for incorporation was then filed and made the incorporation official in the same year. Inkster was considered to be a predominantly black community, and wherein the section of the district filed a lawsuit wherein they claimed that the shape of Dearborn Heights reflects a racial gerrymander. However, the Michigan Supreme Court held that Inkster was unable to demonstrate any legally cognizable harm and eventually dismissed the lawsuit.
