Flint is situated in the eastern side of the state of Michigan and the seat of Genesee County, Flint lies along the Flint River, which is situated just northwest of Detroit. Flint started as a trading post in 1819, and the first settlement started a fur trading, lumbering, and agriculture production in the area. Flint's growth has reflected on the success of the automotive industry and has become the largest single manufacturer of General Motors. It then came to be the second after Detroit when it comes to automobile manufacturing. However, the decline had started when the companies began to relocate their business elsewhere and left Flint with a shrinking economy and declining population.
