Kentwood is located in the state of Michigan and a city in Kent County. The city’s history dates back to the early part of the 1800s, wherein most of the families who settled there left a lasting mark around the city and are still visible up to the present. The significant areas around Kentwood were named after the families that settled in the area when it was always known as the Paris Township, such as Bowen Boulevard, Patterson Avenue, Shaffer Avenue, and Heyboer Avenue. The first person to claim land in the area was Barney Burton nearby the present-day 44th Street way back in 10833. Shortly after, the families of Bowens, Pattersons, Baileys, and Davis followed to settle in the area as well. At the time of the early settlement, Paris Township was an agricultural community.
