Kannapolis is located in the state of North Carolina and a city in Cabarrus and Rowan counties. It is situated in the northwestern part of Concor and in the northeastern part of Charlotte, where it is a suburb of the Charlotte metropolitan area. Kannapolis is home to the Class A baseball affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers. It is also the home and the center of the public-private venture research which centers on food, nutrition, and biotech research, the North Carolina Research Campus. The name of the city was said to be a direct reference to the Cannon Mills Corporation or to James William Cannon himself, and it was published earlier than that with various variations such as “Cannon-opolis” and Cannapolish. However, as the years passed, the widely accepted name and was recognized to be its official name is Kannapolis. Tourists from all over the state travel to the massive Cannon Village Home Furnishings Marketplace, which is a nod to the city’s history as home to what used to be the world’s largest maker of household textiles, the Cannon Mills Company which is also the namesake of Kannapolis. The city has a population of 46, 000 with an average household size of three people. Real estate is evenly spread among apartment communities, homes, and condominiums, which gives future residents plenty to choose from.
