Located in the northeastern part of the state of Ohio and a city and seat of Stark County, Canton sits in the south-southeast of the city of Cleveland. The city is the focus of the metropolitan area which includes the cities of North Canton and Massillon and the village of East Canton. When the city was laid out in 1805, it was the founder who named the area Canton,for his friend’s estate which was built with profits from trade with China. The community then developed an economy that is a manufacturer of reapers, plows, and other farm equipment that were essential to the industrial center. The city’s diversified products also include electric sweepers, alloy steel, tapered rollers, automatic teller machines, and others.
