Located in the central part of the state of Oregon and the seat of Deschutes County, Bend is situated in the Deschutes River which is in the eastern foothills of the Cascade Range in the west and was bordered in the east by Pilot Butte. The community grew after the Deschutes Irrigation and Power Company then opened farmland for settlement. The area has vast resources that were influenced by the railroad boom, when the sawmills were built, and when the wood industries were developed.s the headquarters of the Deschutes National Forest and is also a center for tourism because of the city’s proximity in the lava beds, lakes, caves, and various mountain and ski resorts.
