A city that sandy playa, with a tawny-colored soil which lends to its name, Amarillo sits on the high plains of northern Texas and whose area stretches from Potter County up to Randall County. In the late 19th century, the railroad and freight service availability paved the city’s way from being a cattle city to a growing diverse economy. Amarillo has the biggest meat-packing manufacturers in the United States. It is the only nuclear weapons assembly/disassembly facility in the country, and the location gave rise to its nickname the Bomb City. Amarillo is a city from the Old West with its canyons and old Cadillacs, but at the same time boasts its excellent art museum and magnificent botanical gardens. Amarillo has the makings of a valid Texas Town, mouth-watering barbecues and burgers, friendly people, and gorgeous surroundings.
