De Soto is located in the state of Texas and a suburb of Dallas and is a part of the area of Best Southwest area, wherein it includes DeSoto, Cedar Hill, Duncanville, and Lancaster. The area where the present-day DeSoto stands were first settled in 1847 and was considered to be North Texas' oldest communities. In 1881, a post office was entrenched, and the area was then named after Thomas Hernando DeSoto Stewart, who was a doctor that was dedicated to the community. DeSoto was already home to approximately 120 people, and a cotton gin and general store were established. However, the population lowered down to 50, and by the 1930s, there were only 97 people who are residing in the community along with some businesses.
