Located in the state of Texas and an incorporated town in Denton and Tarrant counties, Flower Mound is situated northwest of Dallas and northeast of Fort Worth and is adjacent to Grapevine Lake. The early settlers used the area primarily for religious camps in the 1840s, the surrounding areas of the city was then permanently inhabited at the start of the 1850s, however, the area’s residents did not incorporate until 1961. When the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport opened to the south, Flower Mound’s population substantially increased. Its municipal government invested in public park systems which were then highlighted by an extensive network of trails. The city used a smart growth system for urban planning, which then resulted in rapid industrial growth.
