Located in the state of Texas and is situated within the metropolitan area that is composed of Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land metro area. Most of the area of the city is within Brazoria County and some portions that extend to Fort Bend and Harris counties. During the 1800s, Pearland mostly consists of prairies, and the residents are mostly harvesting fruits and vegetables such as pears, watermelons, figs, peas, corn, etc. The city was then developed to become an "agricultural Eden" and wherein its first subdivision was named "Suburban Gardens." The town has grown its population today from the 1970s. At the start of 1990, the city limits then extended to Harris County, and that home developer began to buy large tracts of land, which has subsequently changed the geography of the city.
