Texarkana is located in the state of Texas and is considered to be a dual municipality since it astride the Texas-Arkansas boundary. It also sits nearby Louisiana and Oklahoma state lines. The area was first settled at the junction of the Cairo and Fulton and of the Texas and the Texas and Pacific railways, as the name of the city was derived from Texas, Arkansas, and Louisiana. Texarkana, Texas and Texarkana, Arkansas are two cities that are divided by State Line Avenue. Although the two cities have separated their municipal governments, they are still considered to be integrated both socially and economically. They became the distribution and the marketing center for the surrounding agricultural areas.
