Tyler is situated in the northeastern part of the state of Texas, and the eat of Smith County, Tyler, has situated east-southeast from Dallas. The area was already an agriculture area when the oil field was discovered in the nearby areas. The city then became a regional center for manufacturing, retail, and health care. Tyler became an administrative headquarters for oil companies and had commercial refineries. The town was also known to be a flower industry and has showcased this through its annual Texas Rose Festival and Azalea and Spring Flower Trail. At present, Tyler is home to several schools, institutions, and to the Tyler State Park that sits on the northern edge of the city, and there are numerous lakes surrounding it.
