Wylie is located in the state of Texas and a city in the northeastern suburb of Dallas. It was also solely located in Collin County, however, its limit extends into the nearby Dallas and Rockwell counties. The city was originally called Nickelville, as what was known to be after the name of the first store. The Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railroad laid their tracks on the original townsite which is just about half a mile. The established businesses in Nickelville were able to take advantage of the railroad that was established within the following year, and the name was changed to Wylie and it was then incorporated as a city in 1887. Wylie grew during the Great Depression, unlike most of the rural communities in Texas. The onion was referred to as the city’s cash crop and was the main product of the city up until the late 1940s and 1950s. The construction of the Lavon Dam and Reservoir was designed to provide for towns in the nearly four counties. Wiley “Wide Awake Wylie” Texas is the perfect choice for families looking for a highly-rated public school system in an active, family-oriented neighborhood. Wylie also offers options for higher education through Collin College and other local universities. Families and visitors will find plenty to occupy their time in the area. Wiley’s historic downtown is filled with artisan shops and restaurants, and the city regularly holds community events. One of the most popular is the Wiley 500 Pedal Car Race down Ballard Avenue for children aged 2 to 5 years old. Another that draws tourists from all over Texas is the 25-year old Wylie Championship Rodeo. For outdoor enthusiasts, the nearby 22,000-acre Lake Lavon offers fishing, camping, boating, swimming, and other recreational activities. The housing market in Wylie is generally very affordable, but home values are rising due to demand.
