Burlington is located in the northwestern part of the state of Vermont and is a city and seat of Chittenden County. It sits along the Lake Champlain ‘s that sloping hillside and in the Adirondack Mountains on the western part, and with the Green Mountains on the eastern side. Burlington is considered to be the largest city in the state of Vermont and serves as a port of entry. Along with South Burlington and Winooski cities and the Essex Junction Village, together they form the metropolitan complex. Burlington was originally chartered by the governor of New Hampshire - Gov Benning Wentworth and was then named after the Burling family, who were the pioneer landowners in the area. The settlements in the site were then started and have opened a sawmill and the shipbuilding businesses. Burlington used to be a military post, and it was during the War of 1812 where the Battery Park was the scene of several engagements between the land batteries and the British warships on the lake. Burlington, Vermont is nestled on Lake Champlain, giving it perfect views of the Adirondack Mountains. Its downtown area is dominated by fine dining restaurants and small artisan shops. The historic architecture in the city includes styles from Art Deco to Victorian and Streamline Moderne, all of which provide the backdrop for the Church Street Marketplace.
